Dennis W. AsKew currently serves as Professor of Tuba and Euphonium and Music Education at UNC-Greensboro; prior to this he was Director of Bands at Cass High School in Cartersville, GA and Assistant Director of Bands at Bucknell University, in Lewisburg, PA.

Dr. AsKew received degrees from the University of Michigan, Penn State University and the University of Georgia. He has served as Assistant Dean and Director of Undergraduate Studies for the UNCG School of Music. Additionally, he currently serves as President of the International Tuba Euphonium Association and served as host of the 2002 International Tuba/Euphonium Conference.         

 

In 2007, AsKew was named Coordinator of Educational Activites for the Miraphone Corporation.  His duties with Miraphone are primarily in coordinating the efforts of all of Miraphone's educational offerings, including the development of the Miraphone Academy.

In 2003, he was elected an Associate National Regent for Pi Kappa Lambda, the music honor society, and is faculty advisor for the Iota Epsilon Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha. He has been a staff member with many high school and college band programs in the South, Northeast, and Midwest. The bands he has worked with have received consistently high ratings and won numerous titles, including Bands of America Grand National Champion.

Dr. AsKew has maintained an active participation in public school education presenting workshops and masterclasses in many high schools and middle schools, as well as leading clinics for state and regional music conferences and adjudicating marching bands throughout the Southeast.

He has been active as a performer, having given solo performances throughout the United States, Hungary, Canada, Italy, Finland, Australia and the Netherlands. Additionally, he has performed numerous concerts as a member of the Market Street Brass Quintet,  including a two two week tours in China. Dr. AsKew can be heard on Market Street Brass' two recordings Christmas and Jive for Five, their DVD, Live from China, and his CD, Carolina Morning.
